Painting from the Inside Out
A tool for self-expression and exploration

No experience is required for you to play with color, shape and image on a large white canvas; only the desire to experience your natural creative state. Time to express yourself and explore your potential - without any pressure or expectations.

Painting from the Inside Out provides the environment and support for you to experience the creative process. You will learn to move past the blocks created by judgment, need for product and need to find meaning. In a group setting of 6-8 people, you will experience:

  • Space to paint (inner and outer space)
  • A facilitator who provides individual attention throughout the session
  • A meditation in body awareness
  • Creative inquiry that provides an understanding of the process
  • Group support and process that encourages curiosity and inquiry

How is Painting Inside Out different from art therapy?

In Painting Inside Out we trust and follow the creative process - the current that moves under and around our blocks - in contrast to the focus on or analysis of the problem. The creative force carries incomplete feelings and images to the surface that are then painted spontaneously. Healing happens in the experience of this creative energy and in the insights this cleansing energy carries.

What if I don't know how to paint?

If you don't know how to paint you are lucky because you don't come with any preconceived notions of how something should look. We are conditioned towards product; towards making "something beautiful" or "right." Anybody can learn how to paint if taught. This process is not about what you "know how" to do. It is about "not knowing" ...it is about making contact with the paper, following the brush, and creating as you go along, step by step, following your inner movement and urges as you reconnect with your senses.

How do I express my feelings and paint?

Feelings are not valued but celebrated as energy that seeks expression. Therefore all feelings are welcome! The energy that fuels your feelings becomes the engine for self-expression!

What if I have nothing to paint?

We believe we have nothing to paint, say, write etc. from our conditioning that taught us how to be and act in the world. The process of creative self-expression invites us to break through the boundaries of our beliefs by confronting our judgments and our need to control. In a process of self-questioning we learn to open to new possibilities within.

How would this process impact my life?

We all want to be happy. Do you feel controlled or overwhelmed or just busy with work, family or other daily activities? How would it feel if you could play? Feel free and spontaneous? Make changes in your life? This is the place to explore, to play, try out, run with, follow, jump, skip or hop into the new- on your own terms- with yourself, following your true self.
